We have a BIG announcement today – Faith & Floral has been purchased by Denise Nehman! Don’t worry – many things will stay the same, and down the road I’m sure you’ll see great new changes! Denise is enthusiastic about the shop’s future, and has a plethora of experience from which to pull. Mary wants to make sure to thank the Pocahontas community and surrounding towns for their patronage and support. So many people had a hand in making Faith & Floral what it is today, from the renovation crew, to the employees, to the customers. Mary’s husband Pat spent countless hours at the shop, delivering flowers, and playing guitar while Mary designed late at night. Her 3 kids, each had a part of the shop as well – the logo, cleaning out the basement, fluffing and facing shelves, and playing designer! Mary’s intentions were always to open the flower shop, get it running smoothly, and then be able to sell a turn-key business to the next energetic entrepreneur. This concept was instilled in her from an early age when her father taught her to always leave a place better than when you found it. These 3 years have flown by, and we are stoked to see what the future holds for Faith & Floral and Denise!

The slump of winter is here again. It’s cold. It’s windy. It’s Iowa in February. It’s easy to be grumpy, it’s easy to be down, but the feeling you get when you see someone smile because they feel loved far outweighs any other. What better time to brighten up someone’s day and show love? We are surrounded by hate, protests, wars, and disagreements. Why not be surrounded by love for a day or two? What might that do to your mood, or another person’s mood? On this Valentine’s Day, maybe instead of feeling “obligated”, we should be excited at the opportunity to show love, not only to those we hold dear (whom we should show love to every day :)), but also to a stranger, or an acquaintance, or a co-worker, or …. everyone. Would you be willing to put in a little extra effort this year to show love? Who will you ask to be your Valentine?

It’s almost here! Preparations are happening for our second Caring Rose Week. Bring two cans to donate to our local food pantry and for $10 we will give you a dozen roses! These roses fly out the door, so you can reserve them early by calling the shop or filling out our great new online form – so reserve your Dozen Caring Roses now! This event will help our local food pantry bolster their supplies before the holiday season, so all donations are appreciated. If you are wondering what they need – it’s a lot of everything. Some ideas: things that require little else to make (basically just water), soups with meat are great, easy prep meals that only need water, canned meat (salmon, chicken), granola bars, snacks kids love like juice boxes, applesauce, fruit in water or juice, healthy cereal, and basically anything else your own family depends on for shelf-stable healthy eating! Hygiene products also make great donations – toothpaste, soap, body wash, etc. We appreciate all donations – come fill our cart and take home some roses!
If you could give someone a smile for free, no strings attached, would you? Most people would say YES! We did, too! With the Society of American Florists (SAF) we are bringing you “Petal it Forward” right here in Pocahontas! This event combines flowers and unexpected kindness into one event. We will be surprising people on the streets of Pocahontas with two small bouquets of blooms, one to keep and one to give away! They can give it to a friend, relative, co-worker or a stranger! Studies have shown flowers create a lasting positive emotional impact on the recipient. It’s true – we see it everyday, and we want to spread the joy of God’s beautiful creations.
